Fans, family, sponsors and
supporters of the #01 team,
Much has changed over the winter months, and as racetracks are
drying up it’s about time to lay down some rubber. We have some
exciting news to report before the season gets underway.
The series is now affiliated with ARCA (Automobile Racing Club
of America), a major U.S. oval track series. They have also
teamed up with Macs convenience stores, to form the ARCA West/
Macs Series. This is HUGE, as it basically opens up a window for
Canadian talent to be noticed. We will be taking full advantage
of that, as we treat every race this year as an opportunity to
achieve our dream. It adds a new level of competition to this
already booming series.
Our sponsors continue to return for another season, and Hershey
is particular has stepped up to help us compete at this high
level. We proudly display the Oh Henry on the side of the car.
Hershey has always been a supportive and delicious sponsor.
Thank you for your continued involvement.
Last year was a growing year for our small team, while it
generally takes a few years to put ones self in a position to
win a championship we definitely left an impression in 2007 and
I am confident the Mac’s #01 will be a major player in 2008. As
far as the #01 car itself goes, she is coming together nicely.
This year we will be leasing engines off of Craig Ball, a well
known racer, and president of the ARCA West Mac’s series. This
means about another 200 horses thumping underneath the hood.
Buckle up because it’s going to be an exciting season.
Our first race is May 31st on the 3/8 mile track in Saskatoon,
Saskatchewan. We frantically continue preparation on the car,
and look forward to reaping the benefits of our hard work. See
you at the races! |
Race
City Calgary – September 15th
Back to Race City Speedway for the 8th round of the Newalta Late
Model Challenge Series. I looked at this race as a chance to
"redeem" myself after throwing away a good finish in July.
Unfortunately the racing gods would have none of that. I was
lucky to have my crew plus two for this race, Kiel and Tiffany
were in the pits to help out, and motivated me to a very strong
qualifying effort. 14th of 32 cars, only .8 seconds off of the
pole sitters time. We followed this up with a 2nd place finish
in the heat race!

The car was working awesome. Only a
few laps into the main event, I felt a horrible vibration in the
car, and at 130 miles an hour, vibrations get your attention!
Still, like any pig headed racer
I wasn’t ready to pull off of that track until I was sure this
was a problem. I ran another 2 laps, but while battling for
position it continued to get worse and finally for fear of
crashing I quickly pulled to the bottom of the track and entered
pit road. That’s when a frame rail in the rear of the car
snapped off and with a BANG the whole rear end of the car
twisted sideways and violently stopped. This disappointment
would cost us dearly in the points. However if I had stayed out
at speed for even one more corner, I surely would have ended up
in the wall…hard. |

Cranbrook B.C. – August 25th
Speedway
Race #7 was held on the rough, poorly lit speedway of Cranbrook
B.C. The track will conclude this season as its last, and
fittingly so. It did however produce an exciting show for the
exuberant fan base. With Graeme, Dad and “Randy’s Mom” in the
pits we qualified the car 19th out of 26 cars, and finished 5th
in the heat race. |

With Rookie of the Year points on our
minds, the team was looking for a solid finish, run every lap
and stay out of trouble. And while the car took damage to all 4
corners in an intense 150 lap brawl, we survived a 7th place
finish! Advancing 12 positions in the main, and moving us up to
a 6th place in the overall points! A big Thank you to Craig
Stewart and Jim Lister for making a critical right rear tire
swap for us. |
